On the 8th of November we played Canovee in the Sciath na Scol final in Pairc Uí Rinn. We got off to a great start by winning the throw in and then Ben Donovan won the ball near the Canovee box and stuck it in the back of the net.

Canovee weren’t long replying and they soon cancelled out our goal with one of their own. They were very dangerous on the attack but some super man-marking and defending from Nils Tabb helped to keep the Canovee score down. Despite Crosshaven having more possession, we had a number of wides and Canovee led 1-3 to 1-2 at half-time. Some inspiring words from Mr. Ashman, Mr. O’Connor and team captain Ben Donovan spurred us on and we went out to win the second half.

The team never gave up. Daniel O’Donovan and James McCann were solid in the back line. Jack Kennefick fought for every ball at midfield and worked tirelessly throughout the game. Dara O’Connell and John Whyte kept Canovee on their toes aswell.

Crosshaven failed to convert some more scoring chances in the second half but when Darragh Cogan got onto the end of a well delivered ball and finished to the back of the net, we got the lead and the boost we needed and pushed on from there. With further points from Jack O’Connell and Ben Donovan, it looked like we would be crowned champions. In the dying minutes of the game, a dangerous high ball was sent into our square but Jay Kelly confidently ran off his line and punched the ball away.

Some fantastic passing and teamwork was shown on the day and this, along with our determination and fight, saw us run out winners on a score line of 2-5 to 1-4

Ben Donovan proudly lifted the cup much to the delight of all our supporters. After the match, we went to McDonalds where we met up with Mr.Harrington. He had been at the match to support us.

Thanks to Mr. Ashman and Mr. O’Connor for all their hard work and training throughout the year.

Crosshaven Abú!
